Character Interview with Tatiana Baker

Main protagonist~ from Jasper, The Guardian League, Book One:

So… The question on everyone’s mind is what’s it like to be with an Angel?

Well, there’s actually not much of a difference. I know that sounds strange but Angels are all around us and we are in relationships with them though we might not know it. Most people probably picture hugs and kisses and romance with Cupid flying around them all day long when they think about being with one of Heaven’s greatest creations. Well, I’m here to tell you that’s not all true. However, I would never trade Jasper for another. Ever. There’s nothing better than a committed partner who’s protective, loving and dedicated. Jasper is my biggest fan and my greatest cheerleader. He’s also my hero and my best advisor. But there are days when he’s not so heavenly (chuckles). Regardless, he will always be there for me and his love is endless. I couldn’t ask for anything better

Did you find it hard to believe Jasper was an Angel?

I knew something was wrong when he saved that boy and there was no humanly possible way he could have done so but I didn’t figure he had a secret. When Jasper revealed to me what he was and that he was not a human being, I was in total shock but I couldn’t deny what I saw in front of my eyes. There are days I’m still surprised at my luck and that he chose me out of so many possibilities.

Does he have any bad habits that drive you crazy?

{Laughs} That’s a good question. Actually, he’s impossibly perfect but he does frustrate me at times. Jasper will say something and not realize its impact. He is so honest that sometimes he’s brutally honest but that’s not his fault. It’s an Angel thing, you know. He doesn’t understand some human customs and social graces but he is learning. Jasper just speaks the truth, which I appreciate most times, but it can still be quite maddening.

How do you handle situations where you and Jasper disagree?

Just like any human couple, we will eventually talk it out. I will leave his side if things get really heated until I can cool down and then we will get back together at some point. Jasper will tell me his side and I will tell him mine. Sometimes it’s a matter of a misunderstanding and other times it may be because Jasper doesn’t understand a human custom. Our relationship has been a real learning experience for both of us but the good part is we are committed to each other. I am never leaving him and he is never leaving me so arguments and disagreements are petty and don’t really mean much in the bigger picture. I love him too much to ever let him go. However, I have shared with him the one exception that would make me walk away: cheating.   We have discussed it but the good part is, I have nothing to fear. Jasper is not a human being. He is an Angel and his needs, wants and desires are different, as a result, and that’s a good thing. That makes him loyal and dependable- two traits that can be really hard to find or keep in a relationship.

How do you handle the times he’s off doing Angel work?

Well, I keep myself busy. (smiles)  I’m very fortunate, though. He’s not gone often for long periods of time because he doesn’t want to stay away from me much. However, there are times when he has to depart on a mission with the Guardian League and for these occasions, he tries not be absent from me longer than two weeks at a time. These periods of absence can get very lonely because I really love his company and I miss him when he’s not around. However, we have the ability to telepathically communicate and he’s constantly talking to me or showing me signs throughout my days which makes it less lonely for me. We have an agreed upon sign that he will show me when he wants to impart to me he loves me and he’s thinking about me. It makes things a lot easier though I still prefer his company over most anything.
